Volunteer

Volunteering at the Deanery Project offers a variety of opportunities  to learn or try new things, develop skills, or share knowledge and experience.  It also allows you to meet new people and make friends as part of a dynamic, engaged community dedicated to helping people find ways to live in more sustainable, environmentally-responsible ways.

Our Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to the growth and success of the Deanery.  The enthusiasm and innovation of our volunteers helps ensure dynamic, creative programs and events.

We have a variety of ongoing volunteer requirements as well as support for one-of-a-kind or recurring events.  Some of our volunteer projects give you the opportunity to work as part of a team while others offer the flexibility of volunteering on your own schedule or from a remote location.

We welcome any level of involvement and interest and want to work with you to make your volunteer experience with the Deanery a positive one.  If you would like to learn more, call us at 902-845-1888 or fill out our Volunteer Registration Form and we will contact you directly. We look forward to hearing from you!

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Work parties, internships, fundraising, program support and Board or committee membership are a few of the ways you can become involved with the Deanery.

Work Parties

Work parties are held several times a year at the Deanery Project.  This are focused work sessions to address a particular need or project.  Past such events have focused on renovations using natural building techniques, low-impact forest trail building, community garden construction, and development of our native species nursery.

Internships

Longer term learning opportunities WWOOF-like (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms – WWOOF Canada)  are available for those interested in getting involved in day-to-day operations or special projects.  These opportunities are available for 2 week to 4 month terms. On site accommodation and meal options are available.

Fundraising

Do you have a talent or interest in fundraising?  We are seeking new people to help identify and apply for grants, create and develop alternate funding sources, as well as nurture and manage partnership opportunities.  Creative fundraising events and community outreach let us increase capacity and help move us closer to achieving our goal of being a self-sustaining organization able to generate employment in local communities on the Eastern Shore.

Program support

Over the course of the year special events from festivals to fundraisers need extra hands for planning, hosting, set-up and take down and other tasks specific to each event.

Marketing & Communications

We are always looking for people to help with designing or distributing posters, writing reviews or articles, doing some graphic design, or sharing our activities on social media.

Board and Committees

The Deanery Project is a not-for-profit organization managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  Our board and its committees play an important role, especially in areas such as strategic planning, financial accountability, and policy development. The Board meets bi-monthly. Board members are elected for three year (renewable) terms. If you are interested in serving on the board, becoming a member or getting involved in one of our committees (including programming, building, membership, and volunteer engagement), please contact us.

We regularly update our volunteer roster and review our volunteer job descriptions.  If you have other ways that you would like to participate, we want to hear from you. If you see an event on our calendar that interests you, contact us to discuss how you would like to be involved.
