Parade of Lights 2018
On December 1, 2018, the Deanery Project teamed up with the Electric Vehicle Association of Atlantic Canada (EVAAC) for the annual Musquodoboit Harbour Parade of Lights. It was a beautiful night for a parade, and based on the turnout, lots of other people thought so too. Our caravan was led by our giant Mother Earth, Green Man and Snowy Owl puppets, followed by an electric Kia Soul pulling the Deanery’s mobile solar PV array and battery bank which provided lights and sound for the “float”. Next was a Tesla Model X pulling a trailer load of carolling youth. The group was patrolled by a spotter on electric scooter decked out in LED lights as we made our way down the crowded Highway 7.
The reaction of many spectators as we passed showed that the Eastern Shore is getting ready to move away from the status quo and toward a cleaner energy future.
Funding for our mobile solar array was made possible by Environment and Climate Change Canada’s EcoAction Community Funding Program. Recently we have been using it to power movie nights at the Deanery – details on FB. All are welcome!
