Demystifying your Bicycle: Jenna Molenaar has over ten years of experience as a bicycle mechanic. In 2006, she cycled from Halifax to Toronto and worked at several shops in Toronto during those next five years. Jenna has spent five of her winters racing and cycle-touring in Chile. In 2011, Jenna moved back to work at a local bicycle in Halifax where she began hosting Women’s Bike Repair Clinics. In her off time, she enjoys cycling trips, hiking and spending time with her family. She also received her CANBIKE instructor rating in 2012. Overall, Jenna has been teaching people how to repair bikes for over ten years and has been teaching safe riding habits for the past three years. Now Jenna has begun a new chapter in the bicycle community. Since last summer she has been part owner of her very own bicycle store Halifax Cycles. Jenna will have a table of cycling parts and accessories from Halifax Cycles for purchase. Lots of interesting things to buy for your bicycle. All the women attending the WOW weekend will receive TAX FREE purchases! All sales will be in CASH. We will also be having a draw and give away a few prizes. The bike workshop (Demystify your Bicycle) is for maintenance and repair, covering thefollowing topics:
- Flat Repair – Learn how to remove the wheels from your bike and repair a flat tire.
- Review of Bicycle Terminology – Review the names of the parts on your bicycle. Bicycle Cleaning and Lubrication – Learn how to properly clean and where to lubricate your bike.
- Pre-ride safety – An easy system and informative routine to perform a pre-ride check. This session covers how to recognize when your bike needs parts replaced and service.
BNS Planning Session: Susanna Fuller is a long time cyclist and has volunteered for Bicycle Nova Scotia for the past 7 years, as well as promoted the adoption of the Blue Route. She is currently co-president of BNS. She also works at the Ecology Action Centre as Marine Coordinator, and sat on the ONE NS Commission. She feels that riding bicycles more can solve a lot of things for Nova Scotia – physical and mental health, reduction of GHG emissions, and grow economic opportunities through tourism. As soon as the snow melts a bit more, she’ll be riding around with her 14 month old. Journeys in Touring: Mary MacDonald started cycling in the early seventies during the first energy crises. She couldn’t get gas for her car so invested in a bicycle to commute to work. She grew to love cycling and that led to cycle touring. Her first tour was a trip back home and touring the Maritimes with her sister. They enjoyed it so much that plans were laid for a cross-country tour the following summer. This was an amazing way to see Canada and she has great memories of that trip. She reconnected with cycling when her family gave her a bike for her 50th birthday. Her touring is no longer as ambitious as in the seventies but she has done several week long trips and continues to do short tours in her senior years, making cycling part of every vacation
Yoga for Cyclists: Lori Taylor is a passionate and energetic certified yoga teacher, personal trainer, and group fitness instructor. The outdoors and fitness have always been a part of her life, she has been teaching fitness since 1996. She has taught many different people, from athletes, kids, teens, seniors, families, in a age range from 2-95. She has spent many years as an athlete and has participated in many running, biking, canoeing, kayaking, orienteering, adventure races while traveling the world.
