Whittling Away: A Knife Skills Workshop
Our last Whittling Away workshop in January was so successful we are running it again in March!
Join Deanery staff member Steve Abbott for an afternoon of exploration into the art of whittling, knife skills, and sharpening. One of the least expensive hobbies, whittling is a great way to express yourself creatively, challenge yourself physically, and learn/hone a very useful life skill. As a portable multigenerational craft, it can be picked up almost anywhere with nothing more than a pocket knife and a piece of wood.
In this workshop you can expect to learn:
– Essential knife safety skills, as well as some basic first aid.
– Basic knifecraft techniques that can be adapted to use the endless whittling projects.
– Knife sharpening and maintenance . A dull or rusty knife is a dangerous knife!
We will have knives on hand for the workshop, but encourage participants to bring along their own pocket knife to sharpen during the sharpening lesson.
Registration is limited to 10 people, Ages 12+
Waivers will be signed upon arrival. No experience necessary.
