Ukrainian Egg Workshop – April 5, 2014
Ukrainian Egg Workshop
Saturday, April 5 from 1 – 4 p.m.
Registration Fee $10
Easter is coming and spring is in the air. It’s the time of year for making beautiful dyed eggs and this is the first of two egg dying workshops that the Deanery Project is offering!
The tradition of making Ukrainian eggs, (aka pysanky) started thousands of years ago in Eastern Europe. The eggs are dyed using a wax resist technique.
Beeswax is applied to the eggs to create intricate designs and the eggs are then dipped in the dye. After many layers of wax and colours, the wax is removed from the egg to reveal the beautiful design underneath.
Traditionally, these eggs were made to be given away to family and friends during Easter. They make a beautiful gift and are a wonderful art form that are a joy to make.
