The Blanket Exercise — Friday, November 15th 6:00- 8:00 pm
NOTE: This event has been postponed until further notice.
The Blanket Exercise is an interactive and experiential teaching tool that explores the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in the land we now know as Canada.
The Deanery is grateful to have Elder Debbie Eisan, Community Events Planner and Resident Elder at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre facilitating this deeply valued workshop in our main hall.
During the workshop, participants step on blankets representing the land, and take on roles as First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Settler peoples. They are guided by trained facilitators who work from a script that covers pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization, resistance and much more.
This powerful and transformative exercise aims to deepen our understanding of Mi’kmaq and settler history and current events.
To register sign up here. There is a suggested donation of $25, or pay what you can.
