Our Flax Journey with The Flaxmobile!
Starting this summer, Jennie from the Flaxmobile grew various plots of flax on-site at the Deanery. After it grew to maturity, we harvested it during our September Open House and allowed it to ferment on our field for about a month. Then, we dried the flax in our solar wood kiln for a few weeks until we were able to process it during our November Open House! Now we have wonderful soft workable fibres of this zero-waste, zero-carbon natural material that has a prominent history in rural Nova Scotian communities.

Also, don’t miss out on seeing The Flaxmobile’s Exhibition at Ross Creek Centre for the Arts from November 12 – December 15! We are so grateful to have Jennie teach us so much over these last few months.
