Men’s Shed Info Morning at the Deanery

A Men’s Shed on the Eastern Shore:
Building Bonds in Times of Uncertainty

More than a year ago, a buzz around the Men’s Shed movement began to build among staff and volunteers at the Deanery. The more we learned about the program, the more the Deanery seemed like a perfect fit to pilot one on the Eastern Shore.

Men’s Sheds are community-based groups found around the world. Primarily focused on men, they provide supportive, inclusive spaces to gather and share skills from woodworking to crafting to gardening and anything in between. They are places to create practical projects with new and old friends.

Where rural residents, especially seniors, increasingly find themselves facing challenges of isolation and limited social opportunities, Men’s Sheds set the stage for sharing skills through hands-on projects, and the camaraderie that so many of us are seeking in this time.

Men’s Sheds can also support our wider community by taking on projects that benefit local schools, community groups, or neighbors. Imagine building picnic benches for a local school or crafting furniture for community spaces.

The Deanery is currently gauging interest in hosting creation of a group and would love to hear from individuals, businesses, or community organizations who could lend their support in the form of time, resources, or expertise. The initial “Shed” will be based out of the Deanery Main Hall and Woodshop, which is moderately well-equipped with tools.

Our first meet up will be Wednesday, April 9th 10:30 12:00. Please join us!
