A Message to the Deanery Community
On March 24, 2025, the Deanery’s Every Child Matters and Pride flags at the bottom of our driveway were cut down by a person not known to us. Our security cameras caught video of the incident which was sent to the RCMP. They have since issued a call out for information.
This is not the first time our beautiful flags have been taken down over the last couple of years which saddens us as, at minimum, such actions seek to oppose our public support of the LGBTQ2SIA+ & Indigenous communities. New flags will fly again very soon and we will continue to be a safe place of joy, connection, health and healing for all including our LGBTQ2SIA+ & Indigenous communities.
It’s important for the families, organizations and individuals connected to the Deanery – as well as our neighbours, and the broader community who’ve reached out – that this kind of action stops, and that resolution is needed. We are grateful to the RCMP for taking this matter seriously. The world needs ways of working past actions like these to find dialogue and progress. If the opportunity presents, we are open to and encourage restorative justice solutions.
Wela’lin. We are all Treaty People.
